Faber & Faber wanted a strip to put on the press release for The Motel Life and this is my first revision. I felt pretty rusty doing comics. If only I could write a PHP program to do it for me. Or at least to make the women I draw attractive. 8.25" x 12" ink on watercolor paper.

i just drew it yesterday.. haven't heard back whether not it works. the main panel i think that misses the mark is the "celebration" one. willy looks like a porcelain doll or somethin

Nate Sep12

On the contrary Nate, I always think the girls you draw are SUPER attractive and/or cute!

Alec Sep12

Maybe he IS a porcelain doll. Have you ever actually met him? Maybe he has this weird glass face. Maybe it's INCREDIBLY accurate. Wait... you have met him... maybe he wears it at PAR-TAYS. Yeah!!!

what are you guys doing up? it's frickin 4am over there! not that i'm not up at 4am EVERY NIGHT / er, morning / er, terrible sentence.

oh, and alec? you'd relate / find the horror in this -- EVERY TIME i try to print out something at home, i have so many goddamn messups with tons of wasted toner and paper, it's unbelievable. i think i space out my print runs *just enough* to have a learning scale to the orientation, settings, etc on the printer, indesign, and flip-to-print-second-side to make it a disaster every time.

i just threw out about 60 sheets of legal paper, printed on both sides with dark bf9 pages, because of mess ups.

the first time i somehow slipped in 10 sheets of letter paper in the middle for the second side printrun of a bf9. then i just printed the first side, flipped it over and put it back in the paper tray, left the computer for a few hours, baked a pie (ha! soon bok is laughing at me i bet!), then came upstairs and printed 23 sheets of the FIRST SIDE AGAIN before realizing my mistake.

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa...!

i saw that! wtf?!??? craaaaaazy!!! &c

Nate Sep13

Yeah, CRAZY is right!

Nate, I hear you about paper/toner. I am so psychotic about wasting paper though that I now check and DOUBLE check everything obsessively before I hit "print." I had my BIGGEST goof up today (I think), in which I printed the same inside-back-cover on BOTH sides of TEN SHEETS of Green DVzine cardstock. And I cursed myself for a good MINUTE, walking in circles tearing the paper up. I HATE wasting trees!!!

So you gotta work that shit out man--write yourself some notes or something. I remember you having to throw out that HUGE stack of guts before we went up to the Olympia comics fest and I almost had a PANIC ATTACK!

Alec Sep13

tell me about it.. i about have a panic attack every time i toss out a huge stack of paper. i mean, i use ONE napkin if one at all (and toss the used one+whatever umpteen ones they gave me in my bag), i abhor paper coffee cups, i think paper plates should be fucking ILLEGAL, junk mail makes venom spew from my ears, and i'm always baffled when someone uses a nice piece of paper for a note. Use an old envelope, some junkmail, a receipt -- anything but a virgin sheet of precious paper.

yeah, so when i toss a stack of bleached paper coated with toxic toner, believe me i'm a big disgusted with myself.

jeremy and i were talking about DIGITAL PAPER, and how they need to get on that shit (ie: sheet that feels just like paper, but is composed of nano-technology ink modules that look like ink but can turn on/off & maybe even change color..)

we were reading the latest weekly, the Mercury, and just thinking how archaic that should be at this point.

Hi Nate,

I'm Willy's agent Lesley - I had no idea I'd been immortalised in a strip cartoon! I love it. Jen - Willy's American editor - just sent it to me.

Thanks so much for all your wonderful illustrative work. I really love the Northline cover. Everyone loves it.

Very best, Lesley
